Applicant FAQs 1. What is the expected time commitment?
Instructors can work as little as 1 day a week. Depending on experience, new instructors can teach up to 3 days a week at different sites. For each session taught, an instructor can expect to log about 1.5 hours of teaching time, 30 minutes of travel, 30 minutes of parent emails, and 30 minutes to an hour of teaching prep per week (for a grand total of ~3 hours per site per week).
2. How many kids will I be teaching?
Instructors teach math to a group of 3-8 children each session. Some freshmen who join F4Ed will start out as class aides who work closely with an experienced instructor in the program and are able to observe their instruction. This lets them gain the experience to move to an instructor role. They can be assigned to one small group, or move around from group to group, helping where needed. Often, class aides are promoted to an instructor position within one quarter, so you'll have the opportunity to grow & gain responsibility very quickly.
3. I’m an international student. Am I still eligible to apply?
We are not an on-campus group, and so cannot currently accept international students with J-1 or F-1 visas. We apologize for the inconvenience
4. I’ve never taught before, can I still apply?
All of our instructors are required to attend an orientation session and receive continual training throughout the quarter. Experienced instructors also hold weekly office hours for you to receive assistance in lesson planning.
5. What if I haven’t taken a math class since high school?
That’s alright. Instructors whose college classes have been far from the math corner have traditionally shown a lot of creativity in teaching tough concepts to kids. Not being a techie sure can shed some light on what can be done to make a math lesson interesting.
6. How does transportation work?
In general, to get to a school to tutor, you will meet with the rest of your team somewhere on campus and travel by car to the site. You are compensated for 100% of the time it takes you to travel to and from the school at which you tutor.
7. How much money will I make?
F4Ed continues to provide its instructors with competitive salaries, plus performance-based bonuses.
8. What is the application process?
Once you complete your online application, you will be contacted via email to setup an interview. We will then contact you shortly with our decision. We’re always looking to get great new people aboard, so our process is quick – you could be hired in under a week.
